He moved to Ingland in 1933 as a refugee frae Nazi Germany, an tae Scotland in 1936. Frae 1936 tae his retirement in 1953 he wis a professor at the Varsity o Edinburgh.^[2] His granddochter is the Australien singer Olivia Newton-John.
