The red-necked grebe (Podiceps grisegena) is an aquatic bird that is found in the temperate regions of the northern hemisphere. It breeds in small lakes and flies to the coast to spend the winter at sea. It is mostly grey, with a red neck in summer which also turns grey in the winter. The bill is dark, with a yellow patch at the base.
