Sorenson gets assist

HAMPTON, Ga. – After suffering a transmission failure during qualifying, Busch Series Rookie of the Year candidate Reed Sorenson was unable to complete the lap he needed to qualify on speed for Saturday's Aaron's 312.

A deal has been made to put Sorenson in the No. 40 Dodge owned by FitzBradshaw Racing and driven by Nextel Cup regular Sterling Marlin.

"We've got to be out there, I've got to get some driver's points somehow," said Sorenson, who is currently fourth in Busch Series points and second in the rookie standings.

"We'll turn it into an OK day. I'll tell you one thing, I'm gonna drive the wheels off that thing. We'll get some points out of it."

Marlin was philosophical.

"Reed's running for points and Rookie of the Year, I'm just running 12 races anyway," he said. "I was looking to try and run the high side during the race since we'd haven't run there yet. But, it's really no problem."

Sorenson will start at the rear of the field.
