MiKTeX is an up-to-date TeX implementation for the Windows operating system.

TeX is a typesetting system written by Donald E. Knuth, who says that it is "intended for the creation of beautiful books - and especially for books that contain a lot of mathematics".

MiKTeX offers a complete set of utilities, macro packages and fonts, e.g., LaTeX, pdfTeX, ConTeXt, just to name a few.

MiKTeX Package Manager 02-Aug-04

A new column has been added to the package manager list view: "Packaged On" shows the date the package had been packaged. Besides that, the rows can now be sorted.

dvipng 28-Apr-04

Dvipng has been added to the MiKTeX distribution. This program makes PNG graphics from DVI files as obtained from TeX and its relatives. It produces high-quality images while its internals is tuned for speed. It supports PK, VF, PostScript, and TrueType fonts, color and PostScript inclusion.

MiKTeX Ghostscript 8.01 05-Apr-04

The MiKTeX distribution now includes its own Ghostscript executable: mgs.exe. It wont interere with an existing existing Ghostscript setup.

pdfTeX 1.20a 30-Mar-04

pdfTeX 1.20a-rc1 is available now. Please read the pdfTeX NEWS file (edited for MiKTeX), for more info about new features and bug fixes. Note that the pdfTeX configuration file (pdftex.cfg) can still be used to configure pdfTeX, but it's only read when building the pdfTeX format files. That is, you have to rebuild the format files if you make any changes in pdftex.cfg. See the MiKTeX Manual, for more information.

dvipdfmx 06-Jan-04

MiKTeX now includes an extended version of the Dvipdfm converter called dvipdfmx (formerly dvipdfm-cjk). The primary goal of dvipdfmx project is to support multi-byte character encodings and large character sets for East Asian languages by using CID-keyed font technology.
