The decision to proceed with the Norwich Park open cut coal mine was made in 1977, with the first coal being mined in 1979. Norwich Park has a production capacity of 5.7 million tonnes of coking coal and ultra low volatile coal a year.

Norwich Park Mine is located 24km south east of Dysart and 266km south west of Mackay. Coal is mined from the Dysart seam, which averages 3m to 5m in thickness.

Coal is extracted by open cut methods using 5 draglines for overburden removal, assisted by 2 large capacity dozers. Coal seams are mined using one hydraulic excavator, one hydraulic shovel and 2 front end loaders. A fleet of 6 x 220 tonne capacity coal haulers is used to transport coal from the pits to the Norwich Park preparation plant, which has a loadout conveyor capacity of 3,400 tonnes per hour.

Norwich Park coal is sold to Europe, South East Asia and the Americas.
