Islands will light up with Captiva Holiday Village Festival
In this most wonderful time of the year, the winter holiday season on Sanibel and Captiva has a relaxed and distinct flavor all its own. Every winter, the Island community heats up with Captiva Holiday Village, a two-week-long series of events that celebrate the unique flavor and traditions of these islands, from boat cruises, live music, fire dancing, parades and other festivities that range from the delightfully eccentric to the large-scale spectacular.

From November 23 through December 8th, local businesses and institutions will host many special events, culminating in the Captiva Luminary lights festival, including carol singing at the island’s historic Chapel-by-the-Sea.
One of the cornerstones of Captiva Holiday Village is the Junkanoo parade, a tradition that’s traveled from West Africa to the Caribbean to Southwest Florida. Bejeweled costumes and vibrant colors adorn the performers as they sing and dance to Caribbean melodies through the streets of Captiva. Before the parade, visitors have the opportunity to create hand-made musical instruments with the Junkanoo performers at McCarthy’s Marina.
Captiva Chautauqua is in full swing this time of year with educational activities for all ages. Lecturers on everything from Astronomy to coconuts can be found on cruise boats, libraries, beaches and everywhere in-between to enrich the appreciation of locals and visitors alike for what’s around them on the island.
