LG announces G Watch to wearables offering

Google announced its Android Wear platform on Tuesday, making Android available on smartwatches through the platform.

Hot on the heels of this announcement was the LG G Watch that will be compatible with a range of Android smartphones.

The new smartwatch will offer users relevant information when needed and to get things done saying "OK Google" will get questions answered and tasks completed.

According to Dr Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company:"The opportunity to work with Google on LG G Watch was the perfect chance for LG to really pull out all the stops in both design and engineering.

"With the LG G Watch, LG is continuing the milestones we've set in wearables following in the footsteps of the world's first 3G Touch Watch Phone in 2009 and the Prada Link in 2008.

"We're confident that a well-designed device gas the potential to take the smart wearable market by storm."

The company claims its engineers have works closely with Google from the beginning to ensure its compatibility and performance with Android Wear and is LG's second attempt at a smartwatch.

LG says it plans to launch its first watch powered by Android Wear in the second quarter of 2014 and additional details of the LG G Watch will be announced in the coming months.
