Professor Michael Clarke

Director General, Royal United Services Institute 

As director general of the Royal United Services Institute, Professor Michael Clarke is one of the most important people in British defence. An academician and past professor of Defence Studies in 1995, Professor Clarke was also deputy vice-principal and director of research development at King’s College London until 2007, where he was previously the founding director of the Centre for Defence Studies. Since 1997 he has been a specialist adviser to the House of Commons Defence Committee, having previously served with the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee, and in 2009 was appointed to the Prime Minister’s National Security Forum. Professor Clarke also serves on the Strategic Advisory Panel on Defence for UK Trade and Industry.
