National Security Advisor

A former permanent representative to the European Union, senior diplomat Sir Nigel Kim Darroch is the government’s national security advisor, coordinating the British defence and security policy at the heart of government. Throughout 2014, Darroch demonstrated his influence chairing Cobra, the government’s crisis committee, in response to the crash of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 in Ukraine, conducting the investigation into the Muslim Brotherhood’s terrorist threat in the UK, and being appointed by David Cameron to lead a renewed push for compensation for British victims of IRA terrorism.
