2015 saw Ed Sheeran play three sold-out concerts at Wembley and win an Album of the Year Brit Award for for his second album x as well as an Ivor Novello Award for Songwriter of the Year. He was also named Spotify’s most streamed UK artist and launched his own record label, Gingerbread Man Records. Still just 24, Sheeran’s rise has been meteoric: having left school at 16 and moved to London shortly after, he gigged relentlessly and never had any money, occasionally sleeping rough, selling CDs from his bag to buy food. His EP No. 5 Collaborations Project finally attracted the attention of Elton John and Jamie Foxx, and he was signed to Asylum Records, with his debut + released in 2011. It has since been certified six-times platinum.
