Man stalked and threw knife at ex-partner

A man who threw a knife at his ex-partner and stalked her has been jailed.

Andrzej Kopys, 53, threatened the woman and went to her home in Cambridge several times, hitting the door with a hammer and banging on the windows.

Kopys, of no fixed address, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm and stalking.

He was sentenced to one year and seven months in prison at Cambridge Crown Court.

Kopys went to his victim's house on 3 September, hitting the front door with a hammer and waving it in the woman's face, Cambridgeshire Constabulary said.

He was arrested and his bail conditions included not to contact the woman or go to her home.

On 7 November he returned and banged on the windows. He later returned on another day and banged on her windows again.

The victim told officers about another incident in June 2023 when Kopys threw a knife at her, which caused a cut to her upper arm.

While on bail he texted his victim, and when remanded into custody in prison, he wrote to her.

Det Con Charmaine Wood described Kopys' behaviour as "disgusting".

“The knife attack could easily have been much worse and resulted in more serious injury," she said.

“Not content with attacking her, he then went on to harass her as she tried to carry on with her life.

“We will continue to do all we can to protect victims of domestic abuse and bring perpetrators before the courts.”
