China is taking strategic steps to safeguard its electric vehicle technology while navigating global trade dynamics. A recent Bloomberg report reveals that China is urging its automakers to keep their advanced EV technology within the country. As Chinese carmakers expand their global footprint to avoid high tariffs, they are encouraged to export the knock-down kits only. Maruti Suzuki has launched the all new Swift CNG which gives an average of 30 km per kg. Speaking to BTTV's Chetan Bhutani, Senior ED at Maruti Suzuki, Partho Banerjee said that we listened to the customer's demand and have offered the Swift CNG loaded with features. He further added that as more and more CNG stations open up and the demand for CNG cars will rise. We plan to sell 6 lakh CNG Cars in FY25, he added.

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its first all-electric Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV, priced at Rs 2.25 crore, at its Chakan plant in Pune. In an exclusive interview with Business Today Television during the launch of Tata's Curvv EV in Udaipur, Vivek Srivatsa, Chief Commercial Officer of Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, stated that it is unlikely India will become a dumping ground for Chinese EVs due to increased tariffs in the US and Europe. "India is on the verge of an inflection point; the 'Make in India' initiative and PLI schemes will continue to provide strong domestic support," Srivatsa noted. He also mentioned that the number of EVs in India is not declining, and fleet operators are eagerly awaiting FAME3. "40% of Tata customers have transitioned away from ICE vehicles, and currently, 12-13% of our sales are from EVs," he shared. Japanese auto major Nissan Motor has said that it will be launching five products by the end of CY26, including compact sports utility vehicle (C-SUV) and electric vehicles (EV) including an EV that could be priced sub â‚ą10 lakh, in India. JSW MG Motor India, the nation's second-largest electric vehicle manufacturer, has experienced robust growth of over 30% quarter-on-quarter, despite a market slowdown. In the first six months of this calendar year, JSW MG Motor India has sold approximately 26,000 cars, with electric vehicles comprising nearly 40% of total sales. It’s raining discounts on SUVs with Tata Motors and Mahindra announcing massive price cuts and discounts on their flagship models. Tata Motors cut the price of Safari and Harrier models by ₹50-70,000 for a limited time period on Jul 9. This is in addition to the discount of Rs 1.4 lakh the company is offering on the two models. In response, Mahindra also announced a price cut of Rs 2 lakh on its XUV700 AX7 variant. Industry sources say the price cut has been necessitated by the need to move dealer inventory which is piling up. Reports say that a slump in car sales in the first three months of FY25 has led to an inventory pileup of Rs 60,000 crore at auto dealerships.
