Pattie J. Brown, 102, transitioned on June 15, 2024, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

She was born on Oct. 17, 1921, in Morris, Ga., to George “Pomp” Washington and Mammie Barnes.

Pattie Brown was a lifelong resident of the Churchville community. In her earlier years, she participated in varied outreach activities, including prison ministry alongside the late Janie McFarland. She was actively involved in social services by encouraging and transporting people to voting polls and participating in other community services, such as leadership for the Phyllis Wheatley YMCA Annual Membership Drive and Chattanooga’s Good Neighbors Club.

Pattie held a leadership role with the children's ministry, “Sunshine Band and Busy Bees,” during her membership at Prospect Missionary Baptist Church. For over 40 years, she was an avid parishioner of Stanley United Methodist Church. She was a member of The Weslyn Service Guild, which later became United Methodist Women, ERSC Program for the Elderly, and generously supported the Stanley Food Pantry.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Brown; nephew, Willie “Bo” Brown; brothers, Willie Andrew Barnes, Oscar Barnes, Jessie Barnes, George Will Barnes, and Pomp Barnes; sisters, Lucille Barnes-Tinsley Avery, Ollie Davenport, Ida Williams, Rosa Kendrick, Mamie Thomas, Izora Lane, and Evelyn Henry.

She leaves to cherish her memory: daughter (niece) Sarah Frances Allen; granddaughters, Darleene (J.W.) Cole and Megan Putman; grandsons, Robert Harris and Senneca (Amanda) Harris; great-grandchildren, Aubrey Thomas, Austin Harris, Senneca Brion Harris, Landon Harris, Senncerity Harris, Axle Blevins, Jahmil Harris, and Milan Putman; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Special thanks to devoted family members: Patricia and Bill Crocker (CT), Edward Crocker (CT), Phyllis Shakespeare (NY), Mamie Shakespeare (NC), Rita Langford (NV), Jerry Lane (SC), Charlie Lane (SC), Ralph and Gwendolyn Tinsley (NY), and Wallace and Debbie Tinsley (AL). Thanks to Nurse Lawrence, Susan, Neecy, Canise, caregivers, and staff at NHC, and Hospice of Chattanooga.

The family will receive friends at 10 a.m., followed by a memorial celebration of life at 11a.m. on Saturday, June 29, at Stanley United Methodist Church, 501 Dodson Ave.
