Loose horses bolt through central London

Four people have been rushed to hospital after several Household Cavalry horses went on a rampage through the streets of London. Among the five people injured is believed to be a military rider who was thrown off his spooked horse during a training exercise close to Buckingham Palace.

Witnesses have reported seeing the soldier "screaming in pain" in the road. All five horses have now been accounted for after going on an epic five-mile gallop across the city, with several pictured covered in blood.

One horse crashed into a bus, another hit a London cab and a third also careered into a Mercedes people carrier during the terrifying charge. Buckingham Palace Road has been closed with a blue tent erected at the scene.

Videos of the horses galloping at pace through the streets of the capital are being shared online, with one striking white horse stained red with blood across it's body. Two of the horses were caught immediately on Buckingham Palace Road and another a short distance away outside the Clermont Hotel in Victoria.

Meanwhile two more managed to flee some five miles to east London before being apprehended in Shadwell, between King David Lane and Glamis Road. The condition of the horses and those injured remain unknown.

The wild-running horses are reported to have been first spooked by the noise created by nearby builders moving concrete, according to the BBC.

The national broadcaster said the sound of construction workers in Belgravia sparked the horses from the Household Cavalry and caused them to bolt, unseating their riders while exercising this morning.
