Novak Djokovic was met with an eye-roll from his wife, Jelena, while discussing his role as a parent this week. The 37-year-old's two children have been at Wimbledon to support their father on his run to the semi-finals.

Djokovic and his family unexpectedly benefitted from a day of rest on Wednesday as Alex de Minaur withdrew from his slated quarter-final against the Serb due to injury.

That gave Djokovic the chance to talk about his experience at this year's tournament so far. When asked what he hoped his children saw when they watched on from the stands, he told Tennis Channel: "Out of the two parents, I’m the one who is responsible for their activities, sports, healthy lifestyle."

After glancing over to his wife, Jelena, in the studio, Djokovic continued: "Exactly - she’s rolling her eyes right now as I’m speaking! I keep reminding them of how important it is to be active and do sport, whether it’s tennis, whatever it is.

"Just be active, be out there. I try to take them with me in tennis every day. Even if it’s match day I want them to be here with me because they’re very special occasions. Maybe just a few tournaments a year where I can experience what I’m experiencing here with them.

"They love Wimbledon because they have the indoor courts, the Aorangi practice courts. Particularly in the second week they have some free courts for 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 60 minutes where they can hit.

"There are a lot of families and a lot of children from other players who are coming in so for them it’s also a great experience. It’s a great camp! It’s fun because I get to have quality time with them and my wife as well and then they still have friends on the side."

Djokovic and his wife married in 2014 and welcomed their first child, Stefan, only months later. The couple's second child, Tara, was born three years after that.

Djokovic is a 24-time Grand Slam champion and a seven-time Wimbledon winner. He would have made it three consecutive SW19 titles last year if he had beaten Carlos Alcaraz in an epic five-set final which went the way of the Spaniard.

This year, Djokovic has set up a semi-final against Lorenzo Musetti by dropping only two sets in four matches. And the veteran appears to be hitting his stride, clinching a straight-sets win over 15th seed Holger Rune before a walkover against De Minaur in the quarters.
