Cleanup efforts underway in Cypress where EF-1 tornado touched down

For many, much of the day was met with insurance providers meeting with homeowners and roofers helping patch up holes and board up windows.

CYPRESS, Texas — In the Heritage at Towne Lake neighborhood of Cypress, clean up efforts were underway Friday after at least one of two confirmed tornadoes touched down in the neighborhood Thursday evening.

"110 mile per hour winds based on the damage done to the roofs and kind of well built structures in these neighborhoods," said a spokesperson for the National Weather Service.

The harrowing experience left many shaken.

"You could hear the debris flying everywhere," said Beatrice Ramirez.

Residents said they're grateful to be alive knowing others didn't make it.

"Thank goodness the roof is still on it has its structural issues but at least it’s still on," said one resident.

"Stuff went through the windows, I had doors blown off the hinges," said Marvin Stahl, another Cypress resident.

For many, much of the day was met with insurance providers meeting with homeowners and roofers helping patch up holes and board up windows.

"This is one of the more powerful storms we’ve had hit the city of Houston so you know it’s a good reminder to take those protective actions take every warning seriously," said the NWS spokesperson.

Those cleaning up what mother nature left behind feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude.

"God is good and it could’ve been so so much worse," said Ramirez.

Now, the big concern for many is the power situation.

There are still thousands of people without power which is concerning as temperatures are expected to rise in Southeast Texas the coming days.
