Acts and regulations
If Parliament agrees to a proposed law (bill), the bill becomes an Act. Some Acts include powers to make other laws, which are called regulations. All Acts and regulations can be found on the New Zealand Legislation website.
-
Amendment Papers (previously known as SOPs)
When an MP wants to change a bill that’s already being discussed, one way to do it is with an Amendment Paper.
-
Proposed members' bills
If an MP wants to make a new law, or change an old one, they can put forward a member’s bill.
-
Schedule of divided bills
The schedule of divided bills shows how some bills have been divided, and gives the title for each new bill created in this way.
