editFrom Middle High German küren, derived from küre (see modern Kür). Possibly conflated with Old High German korōn, from Proto-West Germanic *koʀōn, which does not, however, seem to have attested continuations in Middle High German. Originally a weak verb, the strong past forms kor, gekoren came from the related verb kiesen. Compare Middle Low German kören (whence German kören), Dutch keuren, and Middle English curen (“to select”).
