Ebene-Yo cited his first love dumping him as a major inspiration for the song.

So Sick the debut single by R&B singer Ebene-Yo. The song is about the heavy emotional angst a man endures from being subjected to omnipresent Christmas music. Ironically, it features a smooth instrumental that complements the midwinter season, as if to say, sure, we need music right now, but not that crap they're peddling. The music video was filmed in the isolated snowy mountains, assumed to symbolize the singer's state of depression and loneliness during the season. However, Ebene-Yo stated that he was actually pointing his fans to the one place on Earth were you can escape Christmas music.

Upon its release, it became an instant classic. It would go on to be so successful in conveying its message that you rarely even hear Christmas songs on the radio anymore.
