Etymology

Alteration of 理工りこう due to superstitious connotations related to 工こう字じ不ふ出頭しゅっとう／工こう字じ不出ふしゅつ头 (“one cannot become successful in life by being a worker”, literally “the vertical stroke in the character 工こう does not poke above the first horizontal stroke”). The 𤣩 and 工こう in 理工りこう are therefore replaced with 土ど, where the vertical stroke pokes above the first horizontal stroke.
