Prebendary
Prebendaries have a Prebend Stall in certain cathedrals or collegiate churches. The appointment is similar to a non-residentiary canon. After retirement he/she is addressed as other clergy, unless he/she is appointed to emeritus rank. In this case he/she continues to be addressed as prebendary. Again, the word emeritus is only used in official documents.
Formally prebendaries should be addressed as ‘The Reverend Prebendary John Ryder’, and in speech, an informal letter or in reference he/she can be referred to as ‘Prebendary Ryder’.
