喜界 語 ,使用 於喜界島 。奄美 大島 語 ,在 奄美 大島 的 大 部分 地區 使用 南 奄美 大島 語 ,在 奄美 大島 南端 的 瀨戶 內町使用 。德之島 語 ,使用 於德之島 。沖永良部 語 ,使用 於沖永良部島 。與論 語 ,使用 於與論島 。國頭 語 ,在 沖繩 島 北部 使用 ,包括 今歸仁 村 和 名護 市 。沖繩 語 ,在 沖繩 島 的 中部 和 南部 以及鄰近島嶼 使用 。 該代表 方言 在 那 霸及首 里 使用 。首 里 方言 是 琉球 王國 的 通用 語 ,最早 記載 於 16世紀 ,特別 是 在 《思 草紙 》中 。[18][4]

日 琉語系 :日 琉語系 這個概念 最早 由 美國 的 日本 學者 萊昂·塞 拉 芬提出 [23],後來 這一概念 受到國際 語 言 學 者 的 普遍 接受 ,根據 日 琉同祖 論 ,日 琉語系 的 所有 語 言 的 祖語 都 是 原始 日 語 (Proto-Japonic)[24]。
孤立 語 言 :有 些日本 學者 認 為 琉球 語 是 日 語 的 方言 ,称 之 为琉球 方言 ,但 大 部分 语言学 家 认为日 语和 琉球 语是 两个属 于同语系但 有 很大区 别的语言,各 有 各 的 方言 。服部 四郎 認 為 ,日 語 和 琉球 語 分化 的 時間 為 大和 時代 [25]。
- 澳台语系:
南 岛语与 日 语也有 类似点 :元 音 (母音 )有 5个,即 あ(a)、い(i)、う(u)、え(e)、お(o),不 使用 双 重元 音 ;单词以元音 结束;浊音不同 于单词之首 等 ,但 日本語 與 南島 語 系 語 言 之 間 缺乏 同 源 词汇。
達 羅 毗荼-韓 -日 語 系 :大野 晋 認 為 在 朝鮮 語 和 日本語 中 共有 一 層 達 羅 毗荼語 系 詞 匯。
