MARG

What is MARG

The Manipal Advanced Research Group (MARG) was formed in early 2006. Conceived as a specialised academic centre of excellence built on a strong foundation of basic science, one of the primary goals is to incubate and grow new research projects in the fundamental sciences and inter-disciplinary areas. Given the wide variety of expertise available and represented at Manipal University, this initiative also seeks to establish synergies between basic research, bio-medical science and engineering.

MARG comprises:

Dr H.S. Ballal - Chairman
Prof. M.D. Nalapat - Vice Chairman
Dr H. Vinod Bhat - Executive Director
Dr Mohini Gupta- Convenor
Prof. Y .K. Gambhir- Advisor
Prof. Gottfried Münzenberg- Advisor

In addition to the above core group, faculty and researchers will be added from time to time based on their expertise. A few other members may similarly be co-opted on a “project to project basis” when required.

Adjunct Faculty

• Prof. M. N. Vahia, PhD., Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics, TIFR, Mumbai
• Dr. R. Srivenkatesan, Ph.D., former Head, RPDD, BARC, Mumbai
• Dr. A. L. Nichols, Ph.D., former Head, Nuclear Data Section, IAEA, Vienna

Lectures available here:

• A.L. Nichols
• T.W. Burrows

Under the MARG umbrella, both theoretical and experimental aspects of contemporary basic research are included and will be pursued through independent collaborations spanning the disciplines involved. Scientists and students interested in pursuing collaborative research in specific topics are encouraged to contact MARG, indicating their research interests.

Expressions of interest are also invited in the following subject areas: the history of science, the physics of nuclear medicine, instrumentation and applied physics.

Collaborations: Agreements for academic collaborations in the natural sciences have been signed with Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai (www.tifr.res.in), Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung mbH (GSI), Darmstadt, Germany (www.gsi.de) and the Joint Institute of Nuclear Research (www.jinr.ru) Dubna, Russia.
