To this day, Beethoven is the most portrayed composer. As a subject for art and graphic arts, he remains as popular as ever. The portraits made during the composer's lifetime as well as the contemporary depictions of people and locations are of particular importance for Beethoven's biography. The Digital Archive also shows music instruments and objects. Photographic reproductions to complete the visual documentation depict originals that have either not been preserved or are not owned by the Beethoven-Haus, show variations or give evidence of earlier states.
