長編ちょうへん小説しょうせつ

長編ちょうへん小説しょうせつ・長篇ちょうへん小説しょうせつ（ちょうへんしょうせつ）は、文学ぶんがく形式けいしきの一種いっしゅ。

概要がいよう

Novelは古こイタリア語ごの「新あたらしい」という接頭せっとう辞じからきている。小説しょうせつのうちその分量ぶんりょうが特とくに多おおく、構造こうぞう的てきに長大ちょうだいなものを指さす。

何なにをもって長編ちょうへん小説しょうせつとするかについては議論ぎろんが多おおいが、根本こんぽん的てきな問題もんだいとして小説しょうせつはかぎりなく長ながくすることができる。しかしある程度ていど以下いかには短みじかくすることができない。長編ちょうへん小説しょうせつには短編たんぺん小説しょうせつのごとき構造こうぞう上じょうの定式ていしきがなく、何なにをどう書かいてもいい部分ぶぶんが多おおいので、その範疇はんちゅうははなはだひろく、そこに含ふくまれる作品さくひんもきわめて多おおい。長ながさも形式けいしきも自由じゆうであるといえる。

11世紀せいき頃ころに書かかれた源氏物語げんじものがたりが世界せかい最古さいこの長編ちょうへん小説しょうせつとされる。

日本にっぽんでは通常つうじょう、掌編しょうへん（ショートショート、掌編しょうへん小説しょうせつなど）、短編たんぺん小説しょうせつ・中編ちゅうへん小説しょうせつに対立たいりつする語かたりとしてこの言葉ことばが用もちいられる。新潮社しんちょうしゃ出版しゅっぱん部ぶ文芸ぶんげい第だい二に編集へんしゅう部ぶ編集へんしゅう長ちょうの新井あらい久幸ひさゆきは、400字詰じづめ原稿げんこう用紙ようし250枚まいが長編ちょうへんとして出版しゅっぱんできる下限かげんであるとしている。

海外かいがいでは、短編たんぺん小説しょうせつに対たいする長編ちょうへん小説しょうせつという区分くぶん、対立たいりつの意識いしきがつよい。つまり周到しゅうとうなプロットによって最後さいごに読者どくしゃを驚おどろかせておしまいにするのが短編たんぺん（例たとえば、O・ヘンリーの『賢者けんじゃの贈物おくりもの』の、夫おっとが時計とけいを売うったことが最後さいごに明あかされる仕掛しかけ）であり、そのためには作者さくしゃの語かたり口くち、つまり何なにを語かたり何なにを読者どくしゃに対たいして秘密ひみつにするかがかなりその自由じゆう裁量さいりょうにまかされている。これに対たいして、そうしたプロットを用もちいずに叙述じょじゅつを順次じゅんじすすめてゆくのが長編ちょうへん小説しょうせつであると考かんがえられることが多おおい。このため、「長ながい短編たんぺん小説しょうせつ」「短みじかい長編ちょうへん小説しょうせつ」（手法しゅほう的てきには短編たんぺん／長編ちょうへんのそれによっているが分量ぶんりょうが手法しゅほうとは相反あいはんする）という呼名よびなさえ存在そんざいする。

ただし上記じょうきのような区分くぶんも、例たとえば推理すいり小説しょうせつであればかならず短編たんぺん的てきなプロットによる必要ひつようがあるし、またいわゆる19世紀せいき的てきな時とき系列けいれつを重おもんじる長編ちょうへん小説しょうせつが廃すたれた現代げんだい文学ぶんがくにおいては長編ちょうへんという言葉ことばが意味いみするものは多様たよう化かしており、短編たんぺん、長編ちょうへんの手法しゅほう論ろん的てき分類ぶんるいはある程度ていど以上いじょうには不可能ふかのうである。

世界せかいで最もっとも長ながい長編ちょうへん小説しょうせつ

ヘンリー・ダーガーの『非ひ現実げんじつの王国おうこくで』が目下もっか最長さいちょうだが、未み出版しゅっぱんである。ニカーズは同どう一いち語句ごくのコピペが発覚はっかくして、ギネス取とり消けしになった。栗本くりもと薫かおるの『グイン・サーガ』は未完みかんであることを理由りゆうにギネス申請しんせいが却下きゃっかされた。現在げんざいのギネス記録きろくはマルセル・プルーストの『失うしなわれた時ときを求もとめて』だが、実じつはこの作品さくひんも作者さくしゃがゲラ刷げらずりにすべて目めを通とおすというプロセスが作者さくしゃの死しのため抜ぬけ落おちており、本来ほんらいの意味いみでは未完みかんである。
