Springfields across the USA are competing with each other for the right to premiere The Simpsons movie this summer. 20th Century Fox is holding the contest, in which 16 Springfields are competing. Springfields each have to submit short films about their town and somehow link it to The Simpsons (anyone with a mountain of burning tires must have an advantage, right?). Whichever city is chosen for the premiere also gets to be in the credits of the movie.
People in Springfield, Oregon think their town has an advantage because it is very close to The Simpsons creator Matt Groening's boyhood home in Portland. But, do you really want to be that Springfield? It's supposed to be an everytown with pollution, bad schools, nuclear meltdowns, the aforementioned mountain of burning tires, etc., etc.
The movie comes out in July and Groening is promising "a really good joke" revealing which state Springfield is in.
Simpsons movie to premiere in Springfield. But which one?

Didn't they say that Springfield was in Kentucky on the "Behind the Music" episode of The Simpsons?

Please don't make a general assumption about Springfield, OR. It's not exactly as you describe it, drive three minutes out of the epicenter and there are BEAUTIFUL mountains and trees and the McKenzie River. Yeah, the people there aren't all like most people in LA or NY, but the landscape is beautiful just a few minutes out.

If you need the junkiest Springfield I live near it.
Springfield Massachusetts! The 19th most dangerous city to live in two years in a row! (Ok, one year it was 18th). The cops are also about as dumb as the three in fake Springfield. It has pollution, the schools are so bad that I think the state came in to run them, burning tires lots, and the old mayor of the town was stealing from the city just like the Simpsons Springfield! I think we are to win then!
Now everyone come to Springfield MA, they have the Basketball Hall of Fame and the Armory where Shays' Rebellion took place.

I gotta disagree with Martha -- Springfield, Oregon IS that Springfield. Sorry. It kind of blows. And Eugene is Shelbyville. Which isn't saying much, but hey.
I hope they have it here in Oregon! I might reignite my love of Simpsons to see it at Gateway Mall. :P

Just to add to David's argument: Most of the people in "Springfield" have New England accents- Mayor Quimby, Moe, Lenny and Carl, Barney, Chief Wiggum, the other two cops, etc

Why not premiere it in ALL the Springfields at the same time on the same day?
Why does there have to be a choice?

Springfield, MA, was the first Springfield - the original - founded in the 1700s. A good point that Quimby and other characters all have the "Bostonian" accent. Another little known fact, Mike Skully, the writer for the show, was born and raised in West Springfield, MA - just over the bridge from the soon-to-be Homertropolis.

Hey, I think Springfield, IL may have a pretty good chance. There is a shelbyville located really close to Springfield, IL and there is a nuclear plant in Decauter, IL, which is like 30 minutues away. Springfield is also the capital...haha a perfect place for mayor quimby? lol. and the innercity schools in springfield are kinda run down. Oh, and Springfield IL has a Lake Springfield. Overall, i think springfield IL would be the best place for the Premiere!

It is Springfield Oregon. The creator not only lived in Portrland Oregon, he was born in Eugene Oreegon. Plus on the show the founder of the Simpsons Springfield was named Eugene Skinner. Anybody who has been to Springfield Oregon knows that it is very connected to Eugene Oregon, whos founder in Real lifes name was skinner, there is even a butte named after skinner. Plus the nuclear power plant where Homer works is Trojan nuclear power plant in Portland Oregon. GO OREGON!!!!

I think it should be Springfield, Illinois. Most people know where it is, since it's the capitol. :P
Oh, and George W. Bush was here once... that's sorta the same as George Bush Sr. visiting, right?
