Tajikistan is the poorest of the countries still struggling to recover from the collapse of the Soviet Union. Its many economic and social challenges are combined with enormous environmental problems, but the country has a wonderfully rich and diverse array of fauna and flora, including a globally significant population of snow leopard. FFI is taking action to help save what remains of the country’s rich natural heritage by implementing a range of initiatives. We aim to increase the capacity of Tajik institutions and help local people to protect and manage their landscape, including the Zorkul lake Zapovednik and the surrounding Pamir Mountains.
