Type of Cake

Traditionally, a wedding cake is a tiered fruitcake, decorated and iced in white royal icing. This was sometimes sparsely decorated with flowers. Not everyone likes fruitcake, so more contemporary options such as carrot, chocolate or lemon may be considered.

A tiered cake of different flavours - for example, one chocolate tier, one lemon tier, etc. - is a good compromise between traditional and modern styles. A display of cup cakes, decorated with different types of icing or flowers, looks fun. A croquembouche - a tall, cone-shaped tower of filled profiteroles drizzled with molten cascading sugar - is also a good non-traditional option.

Many people choose to serve more pudding-like cakes as pudding - this is also an economical option.
