視覺 皮 層 唔淨只 會 對外 界 嘅視覺 刺激 有 反應 ,仲 會 做心像 嘅工作 -研究 者 搵咗班 受試者 返 嚟,一路要一班受試者做用到心像嘅作業(喺腦海 入 面 想像 一 啲影像 ),一 路用 神經 成 像 架 生 監察 住 佢哋視覺 皮 層 嘅活動 ;結果 發現 ,當 受試者 想像 一 幅 影像 嗰時,佢哋嘅視覺 皮 層 會 有 同 真 係 睇到嗰幅圖像 嗰時相似 甚至一 樣 嘅活動 規律 ,而且研究 者 仲 有 得 靠 齋 觀察 視覺 皮 層 嘅活動 ,分 辨 到 一個受試者喺度想像緊邊個影像[10][27];有 神經 科學 家 試 過 運用 經 顱磁刺激 ([歐 12]一種 用 磁場 刺激 或 者 壓 抑 特定 腦 區 嘅技術 )特 登 壓 抑 視覺 皮 層 某 啲部份嘅活動 ,發現 噉做會 暫時 搞到受試者 嘅心像 能力 下降 (做要求心 像 嘅工作 表現 下降 )[28]。實驗 顯示 ,「叫 受試者 喺腦海 入 面 想像 一 幅 影像 」會 達 到 同 「真 係 見 到 嗰幅影像 」相似 甚至一 樣 嘅效果 [26];舉個簡單 嘅例子 說明 ,當時 嘅認知 科學 已 知 ,望 一個熟手嘅人做一項運動作業能夠幫助學習者提升表現(犯 錯機會 率 低 咗、完成 要用 嘅時間 少 咗...等 等 ),而後嚟有研究 發現 ,教 受試者 正確 噉喺腦 海 入 面 想像 要 做嘅動作 都 可 以達到 提 升 表現 嘅效果 ;一般認為呢個發現即係表示,「想像 一 幅 影像 」同 「見 到 嗰幅影像 」嘅心理 基礎 好 相似 [29]。

指 個 腦 感知 到 一 件 資 訊,並 且認得 嗰件資 訊同之 前 感知 過 嘅資訊吻合 (「我 睇緊呢啲內容,我 記 得 喺尋日 睇嗰本書 嗰度睇過」)[39]。
