A Virtual Cruise to Puerto Rico – The National Museum of Language

The presentation below is a self-guided exploration of the island, its history, culture, art, food, music and natural beauty. Please be patient while the boat approaches the dock (or the presentation loads). Click on the arrows at the bottom of the player or on objects in the presentation to move through the tours. Our little friendly coqui (the tiny frog who lives in the rainforest of Puerto Rico) will guide you along the way. The tour is presented in three parts:

Part One welcomes you to the exhibit. Learn about Puerto Rico’s unique position within the United States, its history, flag, and some useful Spanish phrases.

Part Two includes a tour of Old San Juan, its Cathedral and historic sites. Then you can take off in a “minibus” to tour the island: Isabela, Arecibo, Manati, Dorado, Maricao, Camuy, Ciales, San Lorenzo, and Fajardo.

Part Three invites you to explore Puerto Rico’s music and visual arts. Learn about the rich diversity of musical styles springing from the island’s cultural heritage. We feature the visual art of a Puerto Rican artist, Cristian Santiago Rodriguez and the music of Treze Abriles.

Part Four invites you to explore the rainforest in El Yunque National Forest, and sample the rich variety of flavors found in Puerto Rico’s popular foods. You’ll find they can be experienced in far-flung restaurants as distant as the ones we visit in Los Angeles.
