生涯しょうがい

生おい立たち

1902年ねん、ユダヤ系けいの商人しょうにんの子ことしてライプツィヒに生うまれた。ライプツィヒ、ミュンヘン、ベルリン、フランクフルトの大学だいがくで美術びじゅつ史し（芸術げいじゅつ史し）を学まなんだ。

美術びじゅつ史し研究けんきゅう者しゃとして(ナチスの台頭たいとうまで)

1924年ねんから1928年ねんまでドレスデン・ギャラリー、1929年ねんから1933年ねんまでゲッティンゲン大学だいがくにつとめた。1934年ねん、ナチスの蛮行ばんこうを避さけてイングランドへ移住いじゅうした。

イギリス移住いじゅう後ご

1946年ねん、イギリスの市民しみんとなった。1944年ねんから1969年ねんまでロンドン大学だいがく教授きょうじゅ。1949年ねんから1955年ねんにはケンブリッジ大学けんぶりっじだいがくの教授きょうじゅを兼任けんにんした。1953年ねんからの "Pelican History of Art" シリーズ発行はっこうを主幹しゅかんした。

1967年ねん、RIBAゴールドメダル受賞じゅしょう。1969年ねん、ナイトの称号しょうごうを授与じゅよ。1975年ねんアルバート・メダル受賞じゅしょう。1983年ねん、ロンドンで死去しきょした。
