FSD meeting recap 2022-07-22
Every week, free software activists from around the world come together in #fsf on Libera.Chat to help improve the (FSD). This recaps the work we accomplished at the Friday, July 22, 2022 meeting.
This week's meeting was hosted by free software volunteer Panos Alevropoulos. We were especially happy to welcome back several people who have only recently started contributing to the FSD. We also added a few proposed entries that are now pending evaluation. These FSD meetings are often a place where we discuss matters of importance to the free software community. Here's a brief overview of what we discussed during our meeting:
- How to effectively evaluate projects with complex licensing information.
- How to better communicate the licensing issues of rejected FSD entries to users.
- If and how the GPLv2 and Apache 2.0 can be compatible. The answer is published at: https://www.gnu.org/licenses/license-list.html#apache2
- What entries we should focus on for our next meeting.
- Finally, we shared some programs that we use, and discussed which libre GNU/Linux distribution is ideal for beginners.
New programs approved with licensing check:
- Janet, a functional and imperative programming language.
- fontconfig, a library for configuring and customizing font access.
