- 「
二 重 生成 モデル(DDモデル)」では、軽量 のヘリウム白色 矮星とより重 い炭素 -酸素 白色 矮星からなる連 星 系 で形成 された、と説明 した。2つの星 は既 に核 融合 によるエネルギー生成 をやめ、コンパクト天体 となっている。両 星 の公転 運動 で重力 波 が放出 されることによりお互 いの軌道 は小 さくなり、最終 的 に合体 に至 る。合体 した際 の質量 がチャンドラセカール限界 を超 えなければ、炭素 -酸素 白色 矮星に降着 したヘリウムが着火 し、超 巨星 へと進化 する。こうして極端 ヘリウム星 が生 まれ、またやがて冷却 して白色 矮星となる[4]。 - 「ファイナルフラッシュモデル(FFモデル)」では、
漸近 巨星 分 枝 を離 れた後 に極端 ヘリウム星 へと進化 する可能 性 を示唆 した。白色 矮星へと冷却 が進 む間 に、コアを取 り囲 むヘリウム殻 のヘリウムが着火 して、外層 が急激 に膨張 することがある。このエンベロープの中 の水素 が消費 され尽 くすと、星 は水素 欠乏 状態 となり、収縮 して極端 ヘリウム星 を形成 する[4]。
