The Creative Dunedin Partnership (CDP) is the governing body to oversee the implementation of Ara Toi, Dunedin’s Arts and Culture Strategy 2015.
Objectives
The objective of the Creative Dunedin Partnership is to drive the delivery of Ara Toi and the initial actions identified in 2015. The key objectives of the CDP will be to:
- raise awareness and profile Dunedin from a creative perspective and as a creative city
- ensure responsible investment of ratepayer and other investor/stakeholder funding in creative initiatives
- communicate progress to the Dunedin City Council and other investors/stakeholders on a regular basis
- identify and assess potential actions to facilitate the delivery of Ara Toi
Membership
Membership of the Creative Dunedin Partnership comprises one representative appointed by each of the organisations involved in the CDP. The CDP partner organisations and representatives make a commitment to take an active role in supporting the delivery on the strategic themes that make up Ara Toi. The relationship between the CDP and other key components of the Ara Toi delivery framework is shown in Appendix 1.
The Chair is elected by the Dunedin City Council; the Deputy Chair is elected by the CDP. The Chair position will be reviewed at the beginning of each triennium.

The DCC as the main coordinating partner appoints two members to the CDP as set out above.
Partner organisations and representatives will, wherever possible, select members to ensure the makeup of the Partnership can deliver effectively, with key considerations being:
- Good at working with others and in a team
- Creative and forward-thinking
- Sense of fun and adventure
- Experience of any or all: governance, creative work, patronage, business, leveraging resources, financial management
- Strong local, national and international networks
Where possible, taking into account the desired skill mix and experience, nominees and community appointees will be from sectors not already represented on the CDP.
All appointee positions are publicly advertised to seek expressions of interest and the appointment committee (the nominee members) shortlist these candidates and make a recommendation to the Chair.
The term of appointee members will be between one and three years to allow dates for stepping down to be staggered to avoid significant loss of skills and knowledge at any one time. The maximum term for all members of the CDP is two terms e.g. six years.
Each member of the Partnership has a voting right, except for the DCC staff member who has full attendance and speaking right but does not have voting rights. In the event that the vote is equally split, the Chair makes the final decision.
