Early Engagement

In October 2023 we asked the community to have their say as part of DCC’s early engagement on the 10 year plan. Early engagement activities included a marketing campaign, online information, a survey, a comments wall, targeted stakeholder engagement and Councillor led activities, such as joining the library book bus routes and attending the Otago Farmers Market. Through the early engagement Council received 859 survey responses and 400 comments on the online comments wall, as well as four written submissions and feedback from engagement with Māori.

A key finding from the early engagement survey was that a majority of respondents wanted the DCC to do “about the same” or “a little bit more” in five of the six topic areas asked about: Roads, Water and Waste Services; Libraries Arts and Culture; Social and Community Wellbeing; and Economic Wellbeing. The response to the question around ‘Environment and Sustainability’, had around 70% of respondents wanting Council to do “a little bit more” or “a lot more” in this area.

The 10 year plan early engagement feedback was presented at a Council workshop on 16 November 2023. A summary of early engagement was also reported to Council at a meeting on 28 November 2024 for consideration.
